How to print and bind the booklet
Your exported PDF is already in fold order. Print it duplex, cut, stack, fold, and staple — without rearranging pages by hand. Practice with the free 8-up sample: on a correct duplex sheet, page 1 sits back-to-back with page 2, and page 16 sits back-to-back with page 15.
1Print the finished booklet PDF
Start from the imposed export (or download the free 8-up A4 sample below). Open it and print at 100% / Actual size. Do not use Fit to page, or the fold and cut lines will drift.
2Flip on the short edge
Turn on duplex. For a 2-up booklet choose Flip on short edge; long-edge flip prints the back upside down. Hold one leaf to the light: the back of page 1 should be page 2, and the back of page 16 should be page 15.
3Cut along solid lines
Dashed lines are fold spines; solid lines are cuts. Skip this for 2-up and fold the whole sheet. For 4/8/16-up, cut into strips on the solid lines.
4Keep the stack in order
Do not reshuffle the sheets. Stack cut strips top to bottom in print order. If the printer has no duplex, print odd sheets first, reload the stack, then print even sheets.
5Fold on the dashed spine
Fold the whole stack in half on the dashed spine. Keep the sheets aligned before you staple.
6Saddle staple and check 1–16
Put two staples on the fold — one near the top, one near the bottom. Flip through the finished booklet: the cartoon numbers should read 1 through 16 in order. If they jump, re-check duplex flip and strip stacking.
