Design Your First Label — Step-by-Step Tutorial with Barcode, Logo & Live Data

This comprehensive tutorial will guide you through creating your first professional label from scratch. By the end, you'll have a complete understanding of the label design workflow.
What You'll Create
In this tutorial, you'll create a simple product label with:
- Product name and description
- Price
- Barcode (linked to SKU)
- Company logo
Step 1: Prepare Your Data
First, create a simple spreadsheet with the following columns:

Save this as an Excel file (.xlsx) or CSV file.
Step 2: Open the Label Designer
- Go to Label Designer
- Choose a template from the gallery, or start with a blank/custom label
- Click Customize to load the layout into the editor
Step 3: Import Your Data
- Click Edit Data in the workflow toolbar
- Import your spreadsheet from Excel, CSV, XML, or Google Sheets
- Your columns will appear as available fields in the Data Manager and sidebar
Step 4: Set Up Your Page
- Open the Print Settings sidebar tab
- Choose a preset or label size:
- For standard labels: Select "Avery 5160" (30 labels per sheet)
- For custom size: Enter your dimensions
- Switch to Print Layout to confirm the full sheet
Step 5: Add Elements
Add Product Name
- Switch to Design Tag mode
- In the Design tab, click Text
- Select the text element and connect it to the
Product Namecolumn, or type{{Product Name}} - Format it: Make it bold and increase the font size to 18pt
Add Description
- Add another text box below the product name
- Connect it to the
Descriptioncolumn, or type{{Description}} - Keep it at a smaller size (12pt)
Add Price
- Add a text box in the top-right corner
- Connect it to the
Pricecolumn, or type${{Price}} - Make it bold and use a bright color (e.g., red)
Add Barcode
- In the Design tab, click Barcode
- Place it at the bottom of the label
- Select Code 128 as the barcode type
- Connect it to the SKU column
Add Logo (Optional)
- Click Image in the Design tab
- Upload your company logo
- Resize and position it in the corner
Step 6: Preview Your Labels
- Click Print Layout in the toolbar
- You'll see the full sheet with real data
- Use the page controls for multi-page jobs
- Check that everything fits properly before export
Step 7: Export and Print
- Click Export PDF
- Open the PDF file
- Print using these settings:
- Scale: 100% (Actual Size)
- Fit to Page: OFF
- Paper Size: Letter (or A4, depending on your template)
